Tunnel Instructor

Duties & responsibilities

Each tunnel employs up to ten instructors on a full or part time basis. The work is hard but rewarding and the minimum contract is for two years. 

To work in shifts of up to five instructors (including the Shift Manager) and to undertake hard physical work and often anti-social hours. Commitment to customer service and safety is paramount and instructors will receive continual training as part of the job.

Personality, skills and experience:

The candidate will be of a hands-on nature, enthusiastic, capable and innovative. They will constantly strive to find new ways of providing a safe, fun and profitable experience for customers and work hard to help build a new sport.

They will have:

  • Customer service focus.
  • Good listener skills.
  • Coaching skills.
  • Friendly, upbeat, compassionate, personable.
  • Strong team player.
  • Safety aware and responsible.
  • Stamina & strength (have the ability to catch or correct movements of a person of up to 250 lbs in the tunnel).
  • Able to follow routine and procedure.
  • Demonstrated commitment and dedication.
  • Able to type and produce customer flight certificates.
  • Technically capable of operating the tunnel and its systems.
  • Willing and able to operate anti-social hours and shifts.
  • Focus on tunnel business.
  • A 'can do' attitude.

Fitness requirements:

  • 20 Metre Multistage Fitness Test (MSFT). All Instructor applicants must pass level 10 of the 20 Metre Multistage Fitness Test (MSFT). This is commonly known as the 20 Metre shuttle run test, beep or bleep test.
  • Pull Ups or Chin Ups. For candidates that weigh: Less than 150lbs (68 Kg) – Minimum of 10 pull ups are required / Between 150 lbs (68 Kg) and 180 lbs (81 Kg) - Minimum of 8 pull Ups are required / More than 180 lbs (81 Kg) – Minimum of 6 pull ups are required. Pull ups or chin ups start with straight arms and end with touching the back of your neck to the bar or your chin to the top of bar.
  • Burpees. All Instructor applicants must be able to perform 20 burpees in a continuous 1 minute period. The burpee is a full body exercise used in strength training and as an aerobic exercise.
