Assistant or Shift Manager

Duties & responsibilities

An Assistant Manager will take on slightly more responsibility than a Shift Manager, however, the duties are similar.

Shift Managers run the day to day operation of the tunnel. They open & close the business and they are responsible for certain aspects of it. Shift Managers are likely to be instructor qualified and work in rotation as an instructor during their shifts (although this is not essential). They are responsible for all systems at the tunnel during their shift.

The major areas of responsibility include staff schedule, front office operations & retail and safety & training. This role in Basingstoke may also include day to day operations of other onsite activities such as indoor skiing (Skiplex) and Brushboarding.

Personality, skills and experience:

A deep commitment to customer service as a way of life will be of paramount importance along with a commitment to safety. Candidates should be able to undertake heavy physical work (instructor duties) and be prepared to work anti-social and long hours. Experience of the retail or leisure (e.g. skiing) industry working with customers and staff is helpful and desired.

They will have:

  • An IBA instructor rating.
  • Leadership qualities.
  • Good team skills.
  • Customer service focus.
  • Good listener skills.
  • Coaching skills.
  • Friendly, upbeat, compassionate, personable.
  • Strong team player.
  • Safety aware and responsible.
  • Stamina & strength (have the ability to catch or correct movements of a person of up to 250lbs in the tunnel).
  • Able to set and to follow routine and procedure.
  • Demonstrated commitment and dedication.
  • Able to type and produce customer flight certificates.
  • Technically capable of operating the tunnel and its systems.
  • Willing and able to operate anti-social hours and shifts.
  • Focus on tunnel business.
  • A strong work ethic.
  • A 'can do' attitude.
